EMS Chief, John McCarthy
EMS Chief McCarthy has over 27 years experience in EMS and is currently an IV certified Primary Care Paramedic. His previous years of employment saw him working in management positions at Hamilton EMS in the operations and training divisions. He also has worked as a Provincial Training Coordinator for the Ambulance Branch of the Ministry of Health and Long Term. In 2008 he came to Timiskaming and accepted the position of EMS Deputy Chief of the Central Area.
Chief McCarthy is a Recipient of the Governor General of Canada Medal for Exemplary Emergency Medical Services awarded in 2010. Currently also an active member as a lead evaluator for the provincial paramedic equivalency examination team in Toronto as well as an active inspector for the Provincial Ambulance Service Review Accreditation Team. Additionally he holds previous certifications and experience in Ambulance Dispatch Operations and air ambulance as well as firefighter operations, training, suppression and has diplomas in Fire Service Management and Administration, Fire Prevention and Fire Technology.
In 2016 Chief McCarthy was promoted to EMS Paramedic Chief where he proudly leads a team of dedicated paramedics and support staff.

EMS Deputy Chief South, Derrick Buffam
Deputy Chief Buffam has over 20 years of experience in EMS. with a Bachelor of Science degree, Certified as a Primary Care Paramedic and a Certified Municipal Manager level III, EMS Professional and is directly responsible for EMS Quality Assurance
EMS Deputy Chief North, James Besley
Deputy Chief James Besley has over 25 years of experience in EMS and joins the EMS Management Team from Simcoe County Paramedic Services. James has a broad range of experience related to the direct supervision of Paramedics as well as special projects and training, He is an Ontario Safety League Certified Vehicle Accident Investigator, and holds a Certificate as an Investigator/Inspector from the Ontario Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation. Deputy Chief Besley is an IV certified Primary Care Paramedic, responsible for north field operations and training.
