Call Volume

Annual call volume has slowly increased over the last 10 years and the EMS department continues to work with the three hospitals and the LHIN to work towards managing the growing number of non-emergency hospital transfers both within and outside the District.

Non-emergency calls are patient transfers for medical appointments.

Standby calls are designed to move available ambulance resources within the district to ensure emergency coverage is maintained while other ambulances are busy.

The EMS operates under a published EMS Deployment Plan which was recently changed in October of 2017.  This deployment plan outlines how ambulances will be staffed and situated so that  each of the 3 EMS stations receive adequate emergency coverage at all times regardless of the lack or abundance of unpredictable calls in this northern community
